Kulturální studie obsahuje historický vhled do vývoje žánru reality show. Dále pojmenovává kulturně významové prvky reality show Survivor, jakými jsou sociální darwinismus, rituál, život v komunitě nebo volební drama. Stěžejní část práce se zabývá způsoby reprezentace maskulinit v televizním médiu. Mnohost maskulinit je zkoumána pomocí metodologie men's studies, zejména skrze koncept hierarchie maskulinit a hegemonní maskulinity Raewyn Connellové, dále skrze koncept zmrzačeného muže Elisabeth Badinterové. Závěrečná případová studie se soustředí na reprezentaci nehegemonních maskulinit v reality show Survivor.
This bachelor thesis is occupied with the phenomenon of the reality TV show Survivor (CBS, 2000). This cultural essay examines the historical development of the reality TV genre. Further, it studies cultural meanings of the reality TV show Survivor, such as a social darwinism, rituals, a life in a community or a voting drama. The main part deals with possibilities of the representation of masculinity in television. Multiple masculinities are analyzed by using the methodology of men's studies, especially through the perspective of the hierarchy of masculinities and the hegemonic masculinities by Raewyn Connell, and through the concept of the mutilated man by Elisabeth Badinter. The final case study is focused on the representation of nonhegemonic masculinities in reality TV show Survivor.
