Fascinace vysokým mužským hlasem: Internetová tvorba Nicka Pitery

Abstract

Předmětem práce je zkoumání fenoménu fascinace vysokým mužským hlasem v současné (populární) kultuře, především ve vztahu k performanci genderové identity. Jako případová studie zde slouží internetová tvorba amerického zpěváka Nicka Pitery, jehož videa se stala virálními. Práce si všímá způsobu, jakým Pitera ve své vokální produkci využívá hlavový rejstřík, s jakými genderovými stereotypy pracuje a jakým způsobem je narušuje. Analýza těchto aspektů vychází především ze současné feministické a genderové teorie. Práce si také všímá vizuální složky Piterových videí, konkrétně toho, jakým způsobem tato složka pracuje s divákovou představou genderové identity ve vzájemném vztahu slyšeného a viděného. Zde autor vychází především z myšlenek americké genderové filozofky Judith Butler. Jako širší srovnávací kontext pro Piterovu tvorbu se nabízí mimo jiné současný zájem o historický fenomén kastrátů. This thesis seeks to analyze the phenomenon of fascination with high male voice in contemporary popular culture with regard to the performative aspects of gender identity. Used here as a case study are the music videos of an American artist, Nick Pitera, whose Youtube videos have beome viral. The thesis is concerned with the ways Pitera uses his head voice, what gender stereotypes he works with and how he challenges them. The analysis of those aspects draws mainly on contemporary gender and feminist theories. This text is also concerned with the visual aspect of Pitera's videos, specifically with how the interplay of image and sound interacts with the viewers' idea of a gender identity. Here, the author draws primarily on the work of the American gender theorist Judith Butler. As a larger context for these thoughts the contemporary interest in a historical phenomenon of castrati is also examined. Key words: gender, voice, high male voice, performativity
