Eça de Queirós a Machado de Assis: spor o román

Abstract

The subject of this bachelor thesis is a criticism of the Brazilian author Machado de Assis, focusing on the novels of Eça de Queirós. First, it is necessary to place both authors in a literary context and briefly characterize their works. The thesis focuses on one of the novels under criticism, Cousin Bazilio, which is described and interpreted. Other chapters deal directly with Machado's criticism. Two critical articles related to the Portuguese novelist's work are presented in depth. The reception of these articles is also included, demonstrating the possible reasons for such severe criticism and the elements that Machado did not mention. The characters in both authors' works are also briefly compared. The thesis also includes the author's own assessment, in which she briefly presents and comments on the findings from the previous chapters.

Předmětem této bakalářské práce je kritika brazilského autora Machada de Assis zaměřená na romány Eçy de Queirós. Nejdříve je třeba zařadit oba autory do literárního kontextu a krátce charakterizovat jejich tvorbu. Práce se soustředí na jeden z oněch románů podrobených kritice, Bratranec Basílio, který je popsán a interpretován. Další kapitoly se přímo týkají Machadovy kritiky. Důkladně jsou představeny jeho dva kritické články vztahující se k tvorbě portugalského romanopisce. Součástí práce je také recepce těchto článků, kde jsou demonstrovány možné důvody tak přísné kritiky a elementy, jež Machado nezmínil. Stručně jsou porovnány také postavy v dílech obou autorů. Práce obsahuje i vlastní zhodnocení autorky, ve kterém stručně uvádí a komentuje poznatky vyplývající z předchozích kapitol.
