Unamuno et Kundera: moi, existence et scepticisme

Abstract

The research of the understanding of the I and the research of the meaning of the existence can lead to a scepticism concerning the possibility of a rational and knowledge. Miguel de Unamuno and Milan Kundera look for what the I is and for what we know about who we are. Finding no answers after looking for "universal truths", they decide to keep the thought aside and express their feelings about life through art: literature in their case, instead of accepting assertions or evidences they can't prove, being therefore confronted to criticisms and major problems. Even if we can think about other solutions in the wish of overcoming the anxiety that can be caused by the lack of certainties, we criticise the acceptation of a theory or thesis based on suppositions, evidences or axiomatic assertions about which we can always doubt. The way to art and the suspension of judgment are the solutions that Unamuno and Kundera develop. In this work, we will compare how these writers set up their thinking through literature as a form of art. Their solutions are mainly two: the lightness of the I and the immortality as a self-fulfilment in relation with the otherness. La recherche de la compréhension du moi et de l'existence peut mener à un scepticisme quant à la possibilité de connaissance sûre. Miguel de Unamuno et Milan Kundera examinent ce qu'est le moi et ce que nous savons sur qui nous sommes. Ne trouvant pas de réponse satisfaisante après la recherche de « vérités » sur la question, ils décident, plutôt que d'accepter des affirmations ou des évidences dont ils ne peuvent être certains de la validité, de laisser de côté la réflexion, se tourner du côté de l'art et exprimer leur sentiment sur la vie en se confrontant aux difficultés et aux critiques que cela pose. Même si effectivement d'autres solutions existent dans la volonté de dépasser l'angoisse que peut susciter le manque de certitudes, nous critiquons le fait d'affirmer une théorie de la connaissance qui est basée sur des présupposés, des évidences ou des énoncés axiomatiques qui pourront toujours être mis en doute. Le passage à l'art et la suspension du jugement seront les solutions exprimées et mises en pratique par Unamuno et Kundera. Dans ce travail, nous comparerons comment ces deux penseurs mettent en place leur réflexion à travers la littérature comme forme d'art.
