Abstract

Bakalářská práce "Valéry Giscard d'Estaing a Velká Británie" se zabývá francouzsko- britskými bilaterálními vztahy v letech 1974-1981, kdy VGE stál v čele Francouzské republiky a kdy mezinárodní spolupráce mezi Paříží a Londýnem byla posunuta na jinou úroveň díky vstupu Velké Británie do Evropského hospodářského společenství v roce 1973. V tomto období se bilaterální spolupráce států oproti předcházejícím dekádám zlepšila, což je ilustrováno například zavedením každoročních bilaterálních summitů v roce 1976. Práce se v tomto kontextu zaměřuje na osobu VGE a odpovídá na otázku, zda Giscardovo rodinné prostředí a tradice byly kladně naladěny k anglosaskému světu či nikoliv a zda mohly mít vliv na jeho názory a postoj ke Spojenému království. Z tohoto důvodu studie k výzkumu používá biografickou metodologii. V první části bakalářská práce analyzuje francouzsko-britské vztahy v letech 1958-1981 s důrazem na osobní preference francouzských prezidentů. Druhá kapitola se věnuje Giscardovu rodinnému prostředí a analyzuje vliv rodiny na jeho přístup k Británii. Třetí část se zabývá vztahy VGE s britskými představiteli a zkoumá, zda i tato osobní rovina umocnila pozitivní přístup VGE a následně ovlivnila francouzskou zahraniční politiku směrem ke Spojenému království. The bachelor's thesis "Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and Great Britain" deals with the French- British bilateral relations during the period 1974-1981 when VGE held the post of the French President. At that time the cooperation between Paris and London gained the new dimension because of the admission of the United Kingdom to the European Economic Community in 1973. Afterwards the bilateral relations became closer than during previous decades which could be illustrated by the implementation of annual bilateral summits since 1976. In the context of the French-British bilateral cooperation the paper focuses on the personality of VGE and answers the question if VGE's family environment and traditions were positive about the Anglo-Saxon states or not and if his family background could have influenced his attitude to the UK during his septennat. Consequently, the study applies the biography method. The first part of the bachelor's thesis analyses the French-British bilateral relations in 1958-1981 putting emphasis on personal preferences of French Presidents. The second chapter deals with VGE's family background and examines its influence on his attitude to Great Britain.
