In my work, I am introducing Ogyū Sorai, japanese scholar from the turn of the 17th and 18th century. I demonstrate his basic principles on the study of the society of the Tokugawa period (1603-1868) and I present them in the historical context. Furthermore I analyse his concrete thoughts and his revolutionary approach to the Confucianism. Also, I confront Sorai's ideas with thoughts of his contemporaries.
