Abstract

Geography of Subcultures: Punks and Skinheads in Prague Author: Michaela Pixová Abstract This thesis is concerned with the geographical aspects of subcultures, specifically those considered so-called "youth subcultures". The research is focused on two typical examples of youth subcultures - punks and non-racist skinheads. The aim of this thesis is to elicit some of the ways subcultural identity may influence one's spatial behaviour, perception, decision-making and choice of localities. The research was accomplished by means of qualitative research methods, such as participant observation, structured interviews and informal interviews. The beginning of the thesis is based on theory. The first chapter is concerned with the discussion of literature and evaluation of resources, while the second chapter is concerned with the description of subcultures, both as a phenomenon in itself and as concrete groups punks and skinheads in the case of this thesis. The rest of the thesis is based on the research itself. It is divided into three chapters: methodology, review and characteristics of the localities used by subcultural members, and finally the formation of subcultural centres and their meaning for subcultural members. Geografie subkultur: punks a skinheads v Praze Autor: Michaela Pixová Abstrakt: Tato diplomová práce se zabývá geografickými aspekty subkultur, zejména tzv. subkulturami mládeže. Výzkum se soustředí na dva typické příklady subkulturní mládeže - pankáče a nerasistické skinheady. Cílem této práce je odhalit některé způsoby, kterými subkulturní identita může ovlivňovat prostorové chování, vnímání, rozhodování a výběr lokalit. Výzkum byl proveden pomocí kvalitativních výzkumných metod, jako je zúčastněné pozorování, strukturované a neformální rozhovory. Začátek práce je založen na teorii. První kapitola se věnuje diskusi literatury a zhodnocení informačních zdrojů. Druhá kapitola se věnuje jak popisu subkultur jako fenoménu, tak i popisu konkrétních skupin - v případě této práce pankáčů a skinheadů. Další část práce je již založena na samotném výzkumu a je rozdělena do tří kapitol: metodologie, přehled a charakteristika lokalit používaných subkulturními členy, a nakonec vysvětlení vzniku subkulturních center a jejich významu pro členy subkultur. Jedna z nejdůležitějších kapitol je věnována přehledu lokalit a míst často používaných a navštěvovaných pankáči a skinheady, včetně klubů, hospod, barů, restaurací, kluboven, squatů, zkušeben, specializovaných obchodů a fotbalových stadionů.
