This bachelor's thesis examines the effect of stress on the performance of top sprinters throughout the entire process from training preparation to the race itself. Given that in short races, any hesitation at the start cannot be corrected in any way and athletes bear the entire burden of responsibility for the result themselves, they are significantly more vulnerable to cognitive anxiety and face enormous psychological pressure. Methodologically, the text is conceived as a theoretical-review study based on a content analysis of secondary professional literature. The theoretical basis suggests that the effect of stress on an individual is not exclusively destructive but follows the inverted U hypothesis. While mild arousal (eustress) demonstrably accelerates reaction time and facilitates motor execution, excessive tension impairs muscle coordination and often results in failure under pressure. To effectively reduce tension immediately before the start, athletes use distraction or breathing exercises, while in the long term, mental training, imagination and cognitive reframing of physiological manifestations of tension appear to be the most effective defense. The conclusion of the work emphasizes that psychological readiness is an absolutely limiting factor for the overall success of the athlete and...
