Abstract

Práce se soustředí na sociální a politické pozadí americké politiky War on Terror, konkrétně na operaci Neptune Spear vedoucí k cílenému zabití Usámy bin Ládina, jednoho z vůdčích osob teroristické organizace Al-Káida. Úvodní část stanovuje výzkumné otázky, hypotézu, metodologii a definuje pojem terorismus. Nastiňuje také problematiku získávání zdrojů relevantních pro toto téma, neboť velká část z nich stále spadá pod nejvyšší stupeň utajení a nebyla nikdy zveřejněna. Dále informuje o historickém pozadí War on Terror, připomíná události 11. září 2001 a popisuje průběh hledání a zabití Usámy bin Ládina. Zároveň slouží jako předmluva k výzkumné části. Samotná výzkumná část analyzuje dostupné zdroje týkající se operace Neptune Spear. Mezi zkoumané prameny patří oficiální prohlášení tehdejšího prezidenta Spojených států amerických Baracka Obamy, postoje vlády, tisková konference a komentáře Obamových předchůdců, Billa Clintona a George W. Bushe, původního iniciátora politiky War on Terror. Následně analyzuje veřejné mínění americké společnosti prostřednictvím odborné literatury, archivů tradičních i moderních médií, vydaných článků, průzkumů veřejného mínění a dalších. This paper focuses on the social and political background of the American War on Terror policy, specifically on the operation Neptune Spear leading to the targeted killing of Osama bin Laden, one of the leading personas of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda. The introductory part states the research questions, the hypothesis and methodology and defines the term terrorism. It also outlines the problematics of obtaining relevant sources, since many of them still fall under top secret classification and have never been published. Furthermore, it informs about the historical background of War on Terror, reminds about the events of 11. September 2001 and describes the process of searching for and killing of Osama bin Laden. It also serves as a foreword to the research part. The research part itself then analyzes available source materials related to Neptune Spear. Primary sources include the official statement of the then President Barack Obama, the stance of the government, press conference and comments of Obama's predecessors, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, the original initiator of the War on Terror policy.
