This research aims to analyze the factors influencing the misuse of arms trade between the European Union and Mexico. Through an abductive thematic analysis methodology, the study observes and records available information on firearms while creating new categories for research. The investigation takes an exploratory approach, addressing the gaps in the regulatory framework for firearms control in the EU and the lack of effective cooperation. By examining the Mexican-German case and considering the collective cooperation in security, this study sheds light on the opportunities for violent nonstate actors, such as organized crime, to traffic firearms. The implications of this work underscore the importance of translating collective cooperation into tangible actions and implementing concrete mechanisms to comprehensively address the misuse of firearms, considering all contributing factors.
