Příčiny a důsledky rozdělení Irského ostrova

Abstract

The thesis focuses primarily on the theme of Irish partition. The border itself was placed on the island a little over a hundred years ago and its meaning has also changed over time. We will follow the beginning of the partition from both the historical and political point of view. From the historical context through the roaring 20th century, we will examine the topic up to nowadays when the Irish partition gained new wave of interest in the context of the Brexit referendum. Research will be lead on multiple levels. The essential sources are laws, amending the partition, but also laws which created Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State, later the Republic of Ireland. In modern day we will work with Good Friday Agreement and Brexit Agreement which are both very crucial. Apart from laws we will also take into consideration practical obstacles of partition, that ordinary people must deal with. The last point of focus will be the political progress in both states on the island and the consequences of partition. The aim of this thesis is a complex overview of historical cleavages on the island of Ireland and the changes in Anglo-Irish relations in time. Práce se především věnuje tématu rozdělení irského ostrova. Hranice jako taková ostrovem prochází lehce přes sto let a v průběhu času se měnil i její význam. Budeme tak sledovat původ vzniku rozdělení, a to jak z historického, tak politického pohledu. Od historického kontextu přes bouřlivé 20. století se dostaneme až do aktuální doby, kdy se rozdělení Irska dostalo do popředí zájmu v souvislosti s referendem o brexitu. Zkoumání bude probíhat ve více rovinách. Zásadním zdrojem budou zákony, které rozdělení na ostrově upravovaly, potažmo zákony a dohody, které daly vzniknout Severnímu Irsku a Irskému svobodnému státu, později Irské republice. V moderní době pak bude stěžejní Velkopáteční dohoda a brexitová dohoda. Kormě zákonů však bude práce brát ohled i na praktické důsledky rozdělení, se kterými se museli obyvatelé potýkat. V neposlední řadě bude zkoumán i politický vývoj v obou státních celcích na ostrově a jakou roli rozdělení sehrálo zde. Cílem práce je komplexní přehled historie štěpných linií na irském ostrově a proměny anglo-irských vztahů v čase. V konečné části pak zhodnotíme dopady brexitu na Irsko, nejen v souvislosti s nejistotou okolo hranice na ostrově, ale zohledníme i debatu o spojení irského ostrova, která se nyní dostává v Irsku do popředí.
