Literární reflexe života Indů na západě v povídkách Suníty Džainové

Abstract

Tato práce si v úvodu kladla za cíl porovnat vybranou literární tvorbu Suníty Džainové s reálnou situací Indů žijících v západních zemích. Práce měla tři roviny. Měla jsem možnost srovnat teoretické poznatky, které se nacházejí v odborné literatuře, s beletristickou tvorbou a nutno říci, že se vzácně shodují. Co mě ale ještě více potěšilo, bylo to, že se s nimi shoduje i rovina třetí - rovina lidská. Při mnohých rozhovorech, psaní emailů i konverzacích přes internet, se mi vybavovaly všechny načtené teoretické poznatky, jakoby ke mně knihy začaly promlouvat v podobě opravdových lidských bytostí. To samé se stalo i s povídkami Suníty Džainové. Povídky, které jsou velmi lidské a opravdové, jsou realistické a popisují skutečnost, kterou Suníta Džainová vidí kolem sebe, se naprosto shodují s tím, co popisují dnešní Indové žijící na Západě, případně odborná literatura. Setkávání západních a východních kultur se bude v příštích letech ještě více prohlubovat. Díky moderním technologiím se tyto dva světy k sobě přibližují až neuvěřitelnou rychlostí. Zdá se, že pryč je ten tajemný Orient, který fascinoval po tisíce let tolik cestovatelů a badatelů. Ačkoliv se mnou mnozí moji kolegové nesouhlasí, myslím si, že západní a východní svět by se neměl propojovat v jeden. Stačí, co vidíme kolem sebe v dnešní době - spousta...

The main goal of the thesis is to evaluate the contribution of the short stories written by Hindi writer, Sunita Jain concerning the cultural differences between the Western and the Indian cultures and the lives of Indian people within the diaspora in the United States. The thesis opens with a brief introduction of the history of the Indian immigration to the United States of America and to England. This historical background is necesarry for understanding the basic elements of what follows. The thesis continues with the description of the main differences between the Western culture and the Indian culture. The content is focused towards the observations highlighted in the selected works by Sunita Jain. The chapter also raises questions on what it means to be an Indian in the world today and how the Indians deal with the balance of spirituality and materialism on home soil. The penultimate chapter, chapter three, looks at the life of Sunita Jain and describes the crucial moments that have affected her writings. The final chapter describes the life of the heros in Sunita Jain's short stories, that are placed in USA or after they returned to India from USA. The chapter also examines the cultural differences as they were grasped by the author, it deals with the common life they lead and compares it to the one...
