Abstract

The thesis presents the topic of the jungle in the book Canaima, written by Rómulo Gallegos. The aim of this work is to show the jungle as a living organism and a unique space. The jungle is an infinite and mysterious space that occupies a vast area of Latin America that represents either a paradisiacal green cathedral or a green inferno where death creeps silently and awaits on every corner. The jungle itself plays a crucial role in this novel because it becomes the main protagonist and as such has a major impact on the other characters, their behavior and their actions. It is a labyrinth that has neither a beginning nor an end. It is similar to a magnet; having the power to seduce and attract. The jungle is wondrous, as well as cruel, dangerous and merciless and once it is entered, escape is difficult or even impossible. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the journey Marcos Vargas, the main character, in this novel, makes. Beginning in the town he views it as an adventure, a chance to show his courage and boldness. Soon, however, he finds himself in a world of tyrants; a world full of violence and injustice. Bakalářská práce pojednává o tématu pralesa v knize Canaima od autora Romula Gallegose. Cílem práce je zobrazit prales jako živý organismus a specifický prostor. Prales je nekonečný a tajemný prostor, typický pro Latinskou Ameriku, který se může jevit buď jako zelená katedrála, tedy ráj na zemi nebo jako zelené peklo, kde smrt číhá na každém kroku. Prales samotný se stává protagonistou díla a jeho vliv na ostatní postavy, na jejich chování a činy je obrovský. Tento labyrint, který nemá ani začátek či konec, funguje jako magnet, jehož síla svádí a přitahuje. Jeho úchvatnost se prolíná s krutostí, bezcitností a smrtelným nebezpečím, a když se do něj vstoupí, návrat je velmi těžký či nemožný. Tato práce si klade za cíl analyzovat cestu, kterou podniká Marcos Vargas, hlavní protagonista díla. V jeho očích je cesta zpočátku velké dobrodružství, kde si chce dokázat nebojácnost a odvahu. Marcos se ale dostává do světa kaziků, kde vládne nespravedlnost a násilí a postupně se ze své prvotní naivity začne probouzet a začne své chápání a pohled na okolní svět měnit. Jeho proměna vyvrcholí při setkání tváří v tvář s pralesem. V poslední kapitole se práce zaměří na téma násilí a vykořisťování, a s tím související téma barbarství a civilizace, které je svědectvím a upozorněním na nespravedlnosti, které se v...
