Abstract

Bc. Barbora Netrvalová Gender Analysis of the Novel The Hunger Games Diploma thesis Abstract In this diploma thesis I deal with the gender analysis of the novel The Hunger Games, the first part of the novel triology of the author Suzanne Collins, which was released in 2008. In the first part of my thesis I focus on the introduction of theory and methodology, which I follow in analytical part. From a theoretical point of view, I follow feminist theories, focusing primarily on feminist critical analysis of archetypes and the method of resistant reading. I also deal with feminist literary analysis, I present the concept of beauty myth and the genre of utopian and dystopian fiction. The diploma is based mainly on the theories of Judith Fetterley, Pam Morris and Annis Pratt. In the analytical part of the thesis, I use critical feminist archetypal analysis and resistant reading. I analyze chronologically according to the story, I focus on female and male characters, their appearance, attitudes, behaviors and relationships between them. I also focus on the power relations and their gender dimension, or the state system in which the plot of the story takes place. Barbora Netrvalová Genderová analýza románu The Hunger Games Diplomová práce Abstrakt V této diplomové práci se zabývám genderovou analýzou románu The Hunger Games, prvního dílu románové trilogie z roku 2008 autorky Suzanne Collins. V první části práce se věnuji představení teorie a metodologie, ze které následně vycházím v analytické části. Z teoretického hlediska vycházím z feministických teorií, přičemž se věnuji především feministické kritické analýze archetypů a metodě vzdorného čtení. Dále se zabývám feministickou literární analýzou, představuji koncept mýtu krásy a žánr utopické a dystopické fikce. Diplomová práce je založena zejména na teoriích Judith Fetterley, Pam Morris a Annis Pratt. V analytické části práce následně využívám kritickou feministickou archetypální analýzu a vzdorné čtení. Postupuji chronologicky podle děje, zaměřuji se na ženské a mužské postavy, jejich vzhled, postoje, chování a vztahy mezi nimi. Zaměřuji se také na mocenské vztahy a jejich genderovou dimenzi, či na státní zřízení, ve kterém se děj příběhu odehrává.
