Mediální obraz Brexitu ve Skotsku

Abstract

(abstrakt) Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá mediální obraz Brexitu ve skotských médiích, konkrétně ve třech vybraných denících The Herald, The Scotsman a Daily Record, vzhledem ke specifičnosti skotské kultury. Práce se zaměřuje především na reakce komentářů vůči referendu o odchod Velké Británie z Evropské unie a s tím spojenými separatistickými náladami měsíc před a měsíc po historickém hlasování (tj. od 23 května do 23 července 2016.) Tato práce nejprve poskytuje podstatná teoretická východiska včetně historického kontextu, charakteristiky politické situace v zemi a skotské kultury nebo definice mediálního prostředí ve Skotsku. Poznatky jsou následně uplatněny v praktické části, kde jsou analyzovány vybrané články. Autorka předpokládá, že referování autorů komentářů o Brexitu bylo zásadně ovlivněno vnímáním takzvaného "skotství", kterými se Skotové odlišují svých britských sousedů, především od Angličanů. Cílem této práce není zjistit, kolik článků a s jakými tendencemi vyšlo, nýbrž jaká byla nejčastější zmiňovaná témata, co připadalo skotským autorům důležité a jak se stavěli k ideji skotské nezávislosti v souvislosti s výsledky referenda o Brexitu.

This Bachelor thesis deals with media image of Brexit in Scottish media, particularly in three chosen newspapers The Herald, The Scotsman and Daily Record, considering specificities of the Scottish culture. The thesis focuses especially on reactions in opinion articles towards the referendum about leaving the European Union and coherent separatistic atmosphere one month before and after the historical voting (from 23rd May until 23rd July 2016). Firstly, this thesis provides theoretical facts including the historical context, a description of a political situation in the UK and Scottish culture or a definition media background in Scotland. The author assumes referring of authors of opinion articles about Brexit was crucially influenced by the perception of "Scottishness", which defines Scots from their British neighbours, most importantly Englishmen.The goal of the thesis is not to discover, how many articles were published but what were the most often mentioned topics, what Scottish authors regarded as important and how did they face the idea of Scottish independence in connection with the results of the Brexit referendum.
