Abstract

The aim of this paper is to show the importance of the United Nations development programme in the field of fighting against poverty in the world. As a UN agency which is dedicated to development, it is the No 1 partner of the underdeveloped states which need help in various areas of the development process, such as for example capacity building, assistance with the formulation of the national poverty strategies, financial assistance, creation of pilot projects or community programmes which can be used at the national level as well and so on. UNDP is also significant for its network of resident representatives which are at the same time the coordinators of the UN development operations in the country. With the help of these representatives, a successful project can be used in other parts of the world in very short time. By examining the theoretical framework of the development process, the paper underlines the link between the theory and practice which is essential for creating a learning and flexible organization. V súčasnosti viac ako 10 miliónov dětí zomrie každý rok ešte před piatym rokom života, pričom skoro všetkým týmto úmrtiam je možné predísť. Až okolo 98% z týchto úmrtí sa stane v rozvojovom svete. Každé dve minúty zomrú štyria Fudia na maláriu, pričom traja žních sú ešte len děti. Predísť malárii je přitom veFmi jednoduché. Ďalšie dva až tri milióny dětí zomrie na rožne ďalšie choroby liečiteFné jednoduchou vakcináciou. Asi 500 tisíc žien zomrie ročně počas porodu alebo počas tehotenstva. Viac ako 850 tisíc 1'udí je podvýživených a viac ako miliarda nemá přístup k bezpečnej vodě. Ďalších 2,6 miliardy 1'udí nemá přístup k hygienickým zariadeniam, pričom právě ochorenia týkajúce sa nečistej vody a hygieny sú po podvýživě druhou nepriamou příčinou úmrtia dětí po celom svete.1A takto by sa ešte dalo pokračovat' žiaF veFmi dlho. Za všetkými týmito číslami stojí jediná spoločná příčina, chudoba, v jej róznych formách. Móže ísť o nedostatečné finančné prostriedky jednotlivca například kvóli nedostatočnej úrovni vzdelania, nedostatočne vybavené zdravotně zariadenia alebo ich absenciu, o zhoršenú kvalitu životného prostredia alebo o zhoršenie životných podmienok počas ozbrojených konfliktov.
