Cesta do otcovy vlasti: Amerasians v 80. letech

Abstract

The bachelor thesis The road to the fathers' land: Amerasians in the 1980s deals with the official policies of the U.S. government towards the presence of Vietnamese Amerasians who were born to US military personnel and Vietnamese young women during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and the 1970s. Because of their non- Vietnamese appearance these children were victims of racial discrimination in their own country. The study examines the presidency of Ronald Reagan and demonstrates why the Americans willingly participated on the humanitarian help of Amerasians. This will be illustrated on the analysis of the particular political and legislative acts of the United States of America and also describes the American media coverage of this topic in the public during the 1980s.

Bakalářská práce Cesta do otcovy vlasti: Amerasians v 80. letech se zabývá komplexním pohledem na vývoj oficiálního postoje americké administrativy k problematice míšených americko-vietnamských dětí, které se narodily během období války ve Vietnamu v 60. a 70. letech otcům americkým vojákům a vietnamským ženám, a které v důsledku svého míšeného původu byly diskriminovány zdejším režimem a konzervativní veřejností. Práce se zaměří na stanoviska k uvedené problematice vlády 40. prezidenta USA Ronalda Reagana a nabízí odpověď na příčinu, jež vedla Američany k tomu, aby se ochotně podíleli na humanitární pomoci Amerasians. To bude ilustrovat na základě analýzy jednotlivých politických a legislativních kroků federální administrativy Spojených států amerických a dále bude zkoumat mediální pokrytí tohoto tématu ve veřejném prostoru v 80. letech.
