Komentovaný překlad: The Lion and the Mouse; The New Yorker, 2008

Abstract

This thesis aims to translate the essay The Lion and the Mouse by Jill Lepore from English into Czech. The essay, published in The New Yorker in July 2008, follows the creation of E. B. White's book Stuart Little as a way of talking about children's literature in general. The second part of the thesis provides an analysis of the source text, describes the selected translation method, discusses the major translation problems along with their solutions and presents the translation shifts that occurred during the translation process. Cílem této práce je překlad eseje The Lion and the Mouse od Jill Leporeové z angličtiny do češtiny. Esej byla publikována v magazínu The New Yorker v červenci roku 2008 a popisuje vznik knihy Velká dobrodružství myšáka Stuarta Littlea a na jeho pozadí též vývoj americké literatury pro děti. Druhá část práce sestává z analýzy výchozího textu, popisuje zvolenou metodu překladu, představuje překladatelské problémy a způsoby jejich řešení a poskytuje charakteristiku posunů, ke kterým v průběhu překladu došlo.
