Abstract

Mistr Hartmann a švábské řezbářství počátku 15. století Ulmský kameník Mistr Hartmann je dějinám umění známý již dlouho, ale jeho role ve švábském řezbářství počátku 15. století stále vyvolává mnohé otázky. Hartmannovi bývá přiznávána vůdčí pozice jak v huti, tak v řezbářské dílně, zatímco proti mluví průměrná kvalita jeho soch a skutečnost, že se měšťanem stal až roku 1428, tedy déle než 10 let poté, co je v Ulmu poprvé doložen. Tato práce zkoumá Mistra Hartmanna nejprve z hlediska sociální a kulturní situace v Ulmu na počátku 15. století. Zpřesňuje jeho roli v rámci hutního provozu při stavbě ulmského farního kostela a výzdobě západního průčelí, jehož ikonografický program do značné míry odráží historické okolnosti svého vzniku. Druhá část práce se zaměřuje na řezbářskou dílnu, v níž vznikl oltářní retábl z Dornstadtu, a na fenomén rozšíření tohoto stylu po celém Švábsku. Ulmská dílna je představena v kontextu města a zdejší huti, někdejších lokálních center i vzdálenějších regionů. Kolem roku 1415 pozorujeme velmi aktivní uměleckou výměnu zejména se středním Porýním. Ulm, který kolem roku 1400 neměl výraznou řezbářskou tradici, se v průběhu velmi krátké doby stal hlavním uměleckým střediskem Horního Švábska. Master Hartmann and the Swabian Woodcarving at the Beginning of the 15th Century The stonemason Master Hartmann from Ulm is known to art historians already long time, but his role in Swabian woodcarving at the beginning of the 15th century, however, still evokes numerous questions. Although Hartmann is believed to work simultaneously in the hut and the woodcarving workshop, the average quality of his works, and the fact, that he was accepted as a citizen only in the year 1928, more than ten years after we encounter him in Ulm records for the first time, indicates certain complications of this hypothesis. In this doctoral thesis, Master Hartmann is studied from the perspective of social and cultural situation in Ulm at the beginning of the 15th century. Attention is given to his position in the hut organization on the construction of Ulm Minster and his artistic activity on the western façade, which in its iconographical concept reflects also the historical background. The second part of the thesis focuses on the woodcarving workshop, where the Altarpiece of Dornstadt was made, and on the phenomenon of wide distribution of this style around the entire Swabia.
