Rooseveltův muž v Trumanově době: Henry A. Wallace a jeho postoje k zahraniční politice Spojených států amerických ve 40. a 50. letech 20. století

Abstract

Práce se zabývá roztržkou Henryho A. Wallace s Trumanovou administrativou ve 40. letech 20. století a jejími příčinami, tj. především názorovým rozkolem Wallace s Demokratickou stranou v oblasti americko-sovětských vztahů. Nesouhlas bývalého Rooseveltova viceprezidenta s oficiální linií americké zahraniční politiky vedl až k jeho kandidatuře na post prezidenta roku 1948 a ke vzniku protestní Progresivní strany, jež měla tuto kandidaturu zaštítit. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, nakolik tyto události formovala počínající studená válka, a naopak, jakou úlohu v konfliktu měli Wallace a jeho následovníci. V práci jsem analyzovala názorové proměny Henryho Wallace ve vztahu k Sovětskému svazu, determinanty jeho pohledu a přímé příčiny jeho odchodu z Demokratické strany. Věnovala jsem se okolnostem vzniku a struktuře Progresivní strany a roli, kterou v ní měli komunisté. Ústředním tématem je prezidentská kampaň roku 1948 a analýza důvodů Wallaceovy porážky; jedna z kapitol se zabývá i reflexí této kampaně ve formujícím se východním bloku včetně jejího propagandistického využití v komunistickém tisku. Zahrnut je také další vývoj Progresivní strany a důvody pro Wallaceův ochod z jejích struktur. This thesis is dedicated to the rupture between Henry A. Wallace and Truman's administration during the forties of the twentieth century, that is mainly to the Wallace's disagreement with the Democratic Party regarding U. S.-Soviet relations. Disapproval of the former Roosevelt's vicepresident with the official standing of the American foreign policy ultimately lead to his presidency candidacy in 1948 and to the creation of protest Progressive Party, which was supposed to shield this candidacy. The purpose of the thesis was to ascertain to what degree these events had been formed by the commencing Cold War and on the contrary which role was played by Wallace and his followers. In the thesis, I analyzed Wallace's shift in opinion towards Soviet Union, determinants of his viewpoint and direct causes of his leave from Democratic Party. I devoted to the circumstances leading to creation of the Progressive Party, its structure and the role of communists in this process. The core theme is presidential campaign in 1948 and analysis of the reasons behind Wallace's defeat; one chapter is devoted to the reflection of this campaign in the forming Eastern Bloc, including its propaganda employment in the communist media press.
