Konec novoplatónské Akadémie a cesta filosofů do Persie v moderním bádání

Abstract

Rok 529 je spojován s uzavřením novoplatónské Akadémie císařem Justiniánem a bývá považován za jeden z mezníků konce antického starověku. Tato práce přestavuje prameny, které se uzavření novoplatónské Akadémie a související cesty novoplatónských filosofů do Persie a zpět týkají; je z nich ovšem patrné, že výslovně o uzavření Akadémie v roce 529 nemluví. Cílem práce je představit názory novodobých badatelů na právní akt, kterým podle rozšířeného názoru byla Akadémie uzavřena, na význam slova diadochika, na soudobý stav Akadémie a na otázku, kam se z Persie filosofové vrátili. Diadochika se jeví jako finanční zdroj Akadémie. Na povahu právního aktu uzavření Akadémie lze usuzovat ze zprávy v Malalově Chronografii a z Justiniánových zákonů, ale tyto prameny se neshodují, a proto je třeba je uvést do souladu spolu navzájem a navíc ještě se zprávou historika Agathia o odchodu filosofů do Persie a s archeologickými nálezy. Co se týče stavu, ve kterém se tehdy Akadémie nacházela, převládají dnes názory, že nebyla v úpadku. Novodobí badatelé navrhují různá místa, kam se filosofové po svém návratu z Persie mohli usídlit: Athény, Alexandrii a Harrán, ale i další. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The year 529 is the year of the closure of the Neoplatonic Academy. Being closed by emperor Justinian, it is considered one of the milestones of the end of the Classical Antiquity. This thesis presents the sources which are concerned with the closure of the school and corresponding journey of the neoplatonic philosophers to Perisa and back. It must be stated that none of the sources in focus is explicit about the 529 AD events. The purpose of the work is to present opinions of modern scholars upon the legal act of the closure of this school, as accepted by the mainstream theory. It focuses on the meaning of the word diadochika, on the contemporaneous state of the Academy and on the issue of the destination of the philosophersʼ journey back from Persia. Diadochika appears to be the financial source for the Academy. As for the legal act of the closure of the Academy, the two major sources are the Chronographia of Malalas and the Laws of Justinian. However, these two sources do not agree in all points. It is vital to reconcile the two, with reference to the third source, the report of the historian Agathias of the philosophers' departure to Persia and also with reference to archaeological sources.
