Vliv vstupu Kypru do Evropské unie na možnost sjednocení ostrova

Abstract

This bachelor thesis examines the Cyprus' accession to the European Union and focuses on how this accession influenced a possible solution of the Cyprus question. The objective is to find an answer to the question how the accession influenced a possible reunification of the island, and what the significance of the European Union in the prospects on solving the Cyprus issue was. The thesis focuses on the development of the reunification process before the accession, on the Annan plan and on the following referendum, in which Greek Cypriots voted against the reunification of Cyprus. The thesis analyzes the development after the Cyprus' integration into the EU without the northern part of the island, where the European Union has been trying for many years to end the international isolation of the Turkish Cypriot community. This paper also analyzes the relations between Turkey and Cyprus, which significantly affect the European politics and the Cyprus issue itself. The thesis concludes that the Cyprus' accession set back the reunification process despite the efforts made by European Union to end the isolation of Turkish Cypriots, and to prepare the northern part of Cyprus for future integration into the EU. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vstupem Kypru do Evropské unie a zaměřuje se na to, jak tento vstup ovlivnil možnost vyřešení kyperského problému. Cílem práce je zodpovědět otázku, jestli a jak vstup Kypru do EU ovlivnil možnost sjednocení ostrova a jakou roli hrála samotná Evropská unie při řešení kyperské otázky. Práce se zaměřuje na vývoj sjednocovacího procesu před samotným vstupem Kypru do EU, na Annanův plán sjednocení a následné referendum, ve kterém jej kyperští Řekové odmítli. Práce analyzuje vývoj na Kypru po kyperské integraci do EU bez severní tureckokyperské části ostrova, kde se Evropská unie po řadu let snaží postupně odstranit mezinárodní izolaci tureckokyperské komunity. Práce neopomíjí ani analýzu vztahů Turecka a Kypru, které mají velký vliv na politiku Evropské unie a na samotné vyřešení kyperského problému. Práce došla k závěru, že vstup Kypru do Evropské unie spíše pozdržel sjednocovací proces, a to i přes snahy Evropské unie postupně odbourat izolaci severního Kypru a připravit ho tak na integraci do Evropské unie. Fakt, že Kypr je v roce 2016 nejblíže svému sjednocení od dob referenda o Annanově plánu, není bezprostředně dán členstvím Kypru v Evropské unii či snahou EU, ale spíše momentální vnitropolitickou situací na Kypru.
