Formovania sikhskej diaspóry vo Veľkej Británii

Abstract

Hlavným cieľom tejto bakalárskej práce je zhrnúť a analyzovať históriu migrácií sikhov do Veľkej Británie v období od polovice 19. storočia do konca 20. storočia. Sleduje formovanie jednej z najväčších a najvplyvnejších diaspór v britskej spoločnosti, ktorá svojou prítomnosťou v tejto krajine niekoľkokrát preverila toleranciu i striktnosť jej imigračnej politiky. Práca je koncipovaná do troch kapitol. V prvej ponúka stručné prestavenie základov vierouky sikhizmu a formovanie vzťahu sikhizmu k politickej moci v Indii. Druhá kapitola sa sústredí na detailnejšie skúmanie indickej diaspóry, histórie migrácií z Indie do Británie a konečne kritickým pohľadom na pojem "diaspóra" a možnosti jeho aplikácie na sikhskú komunitu v Británii. Tretia kapitola predstavuje základné etapy migrácií sikhov do Británie, od príchodu prvého zaznamenaného prisťahovalca, princa Dalípa Singha, cez obdobie prvej svetovej vojny až po vlnu masovej migrácie po skončení druhej svetovej vojny. Osobitá pozornosť je venovaná príchodu sikhských migrantov z krajín východnej Afriky. Záverečná časť sleduje vplyv udalostí v Pandžábe v roku 1984 a ich vplyv na spoločnosť britských sikhov. The main objective of this bachelor thesis is to summarize and analyze the history of the migration of Sikhs to Great Britain from the mid 19th century to the end of the 20th century. It describes the forming process of one of the largest and most influential diasporas in British society. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter will briefly overview the sikhism and its relantionship towards Indian government. The second chapter focuses on the general examination of indian diaspora, migration history from India to Great Britain, and finally it concentrates on the concept of diaspora and the possibility of its application to the British sikh community. The third chapter presents the main stages of sikh migration to the UK, starting with the first recorded immigrant, prince Duleep Singh, the period of the First World War up to the first wave of mass mmigration after 1945. Special attention is given to the arrival of sikh immigrants from East Africa in 1970s. The final part concerns about the impact of 1984 critical events in Punjab on British sikh society.
