Gender blending a queer performativita ve videoklipech Lady Gaga

Abstract

This bachelor thesis examines how queer performativity and gender blending are shown in the music video clips of Lady Gaga. The thesis attemp to find and analyse through the means of the semiotic analysis and explain their meaning. The thesis is based on theoretical gender definition and on two constructivism concepts: Doing gender by West and Zimermann and gender performativity by Judith Butler. The thesis employs the queer concept as the reconstruction of sexual minorities but also as an analytic lens that deconstructs the normative social structure. The author defines the various elements leading to gender blending and queer performativity in four music videos clips and concluded that Lady Gaga repeatedly violates gender stereotypes and disturbs the majority view on heteronormative social settings by using specific videos elements representing different kinds of sexuality in her music videos.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tím, jak je ve videoklipech Lady Gaga zobrazována queer performativita a gender blending. Práce se snaží nalézt a analyzovat, pomocí sémiotické analýzy, tyto prvky a vysvětlit jejich význam. Práce vychází z teoretického vymezení genderu a z jeho dvou konstruktivistických konceptů: dělání genderu autorů Westové a Zimermanna a genderové performativity Judith Butlerové. Práce představuje koncept queer jako přenálepkování sexuálních menšin, ale také jako analytickou čočku dekonstruující normativní uspořádání společnosti. Autorka práce ve čtyřech videoklipech specifikovala konkrétní prvky směřující k gender blendingu a queer performativitě a došla k názoru, že Lady Gaga opakovaně porušuje genderové stereotypy, ve svých videoklipech používá prvky představující odlišné podoby sexuality, a tím narušuje převládající pohled na heteronormativní uspořádání společnosti.
