Komparace románu Dracula od Brama Stokera s jeho filmovými adaptacemi

Abstract

Diplomová práce se věnuje komparaci hlavních postav tří významných děl o hraběti Draculovi. Zabývá se srovnáním románu Brama Stokera Dracula s jeho filmovými adaptacemi, a to s němým filmem Nosferatu - Symfonie hrůzy (1922) od režiséra F. W. Murnaua a s filmem Dracula (1992) od F. F. Coppoly. Tato práce porovnává pojetí upíra prostřednictvím postavy Draculy, analyzuje a mapuje vývoj ženských hrdinek s ohledem na pravidla a očekávání společnosti, a zkoumá role dvou nejvýraznějších mužů příběhu, A. Van Helsinga a R. M. Renfielda. Úvodní tři kapitoly jsou věnované autorům probíraných děl a samotným dílům, tedy okolnostem jejich vzniku a přiblížením obsahu. Kapitola o Bramu Stokerovi navíc obsahuje krátkou charakterizaci a přehled gotického románu, část o filmu Nosferatu obsahuje podkapitolu o expresionistickém filmu a v kapitole o díle F. F. Coppoly se přídavkem nachází stručný pohled na pojem upíra v popkultuře 20. století. První kapitola komparace se věnuje srovnání postavy Draculy v románu a dvou filmových adaptacích, na základě zkoumání postav Bohumila Fořta. Porovnání bude provedeno pomocí přímé definice a nepřímé reprezentace, tedy prostřednictvím vzhledu, promluvy, jednání a vlastního jména. The master thesis analyses and compares the main characters of three significant works concerning the Dracula theme. It provides a comparison of Bram Stoker's Dracula and its film adaptations, namely Nosferatu - Die Symphonie des Grauens (1922) directed by F. W. Murnaua and Dracula (1992) by F. F. Coppola. The work contrasts the interpretation of a vampire through the character of Dracula, analyses and maps the evolution of female characters in regard to the rules and expectations of society and examines the role of the two most distinct male characters of the story, A. Van Helsing and R. M. Renfield. The three introductory chapters are dedicated to the authors of the works concerned and to the novel and its adaptations, i.e. it describes the circumstances of their conception and their content. The Bram Stoker chapter also comprises a brief characterization and an overview of the gothic novel, the section handling the Nosferatu movie provides a subchapter on expressionist film and the chapter on the work of F. F. Coppola is supplemented with a short outline of the notion of a vampire in pop culture of the 20th century.
