Pojetí imaginace u Owena Barfielda v rozhovoru se C.S. Lewisem

Abstract

The main topic of this disertation is a philosophical and theological reflection of imagination in the thought of two 20th century british thinkers and writers Owen Barfield and C. S. Lewis. The attention is foccused first on C. S. Lewis and his approach to the topic. The analysis of his insights serves as a terminological and interpretative tool for detailed analysis of Barfield's stance which is elaborated later. Lewis's approach is observed in wider context of his epistemology and his theological evaluation of religion. Lewis's concept of imagination is placed from the very begining into the fundamental frame of his life and thought, which is the tension between "rational" and "imaginative" aspect of personality, or between "subject" and "object". It is still more obvious in the course of the analysis, that the tension between "subject" and "object" as well as seeking of its overcoming is an integrating motif of the whole Lewis's corpus. In the conclusion of Lewis's part, there is presented a summary of his intellectual approach to the imagination, which not being a comprehensive theory, still reveals an elaborated philosophical-theological reflection of the topic. Hlavním tématem této disertační práce je filozofická a teologická reflexe imaginace v myšlení Owena Barfielda a Clive Staplese Lewise - dvou britských myslitelů a spisovatelů působících ve 20. století. Nejprve je zaměřena pozornost na pojetí C. S. Lewise, které později slouží jako pojmový a výkladový rámec pro detailní průzkum pojetí imaginace u Barfielda. Lewisův přístup je sledován v širších souvislostech jeho teologie náboženství a jeho epistemologických závěrů. Lewisovo pojetí imaginace je od počátku výkladu zasazeno do základního rámce jeho života i intelektuální tvorby, kterým je napětí mezi "racionální" a "imaginativní" složkou osobnosti, resp. mezi subjektem a objektem. V průběhu výkladu se ukazuje, že toto napětí a hledání možností jeho překonání prostupuje Lewisovo dílo jako jeho integrující motiv. Na závěr výkladu o Lewisovi je shrnuto jeho pojetí imaginace, které není ucelenou teorií, ale ukazuje na autorovu důkladnou filozoficko-teologickou reflexi tohoto tématu. Další část práce je věnována pojetí O.Barfielda, jehož přístup je zkoumán detailněji. Ucelená teorie imaginace je představena jako ústřední předmět Barfieldova myšlení. Postupně je vysvětleno, jak Barfield pracuje se specifickým pojetím imaginace v rámci své teorie jazyka a jak toto pojetí zasazuje do své komplexní filozofické teorie...
