Irská komunita v USA a události v Irsku v letech 1916-1922

Abstract

This thesis is focused on the Irish American community in the United States of America and their influence and involvement in the events that happened in Ireland during the years 1916-1922. This period of time was significant due to the fight for Irish Freedom, which began in 1916 with the Easter Rising, the second phase occurred with the Irish War of Independence, and finally, the fight was over when the Anglo-Irish Treaty was signed and approved in the Dáil in 1922 with the creation of the Irish Free State. The thesis covers the Irish American community and deals with their contribution in the Irish cause and their opinion on the establishment of the Irish Free State. Irish Americans were interested in the events in their homeland and they believed that they could help the Irish cause, especially via financial assistance and diplomatic help.

Práce je zaměřena na irsko-americkou komunitu ve Spojených státech amerických a zabývá se jejím vlivem a zapojením v událostech, které se odehrály v Irsku v letech 1916-1922. Toto období bylo důležité vzhledem k boji Irů za nezávislost, který začal v roce 1916, kdy vypuklo Velikonoční povstání. Další část boje byla spojena s irskou válkou za nezávislost v letech 1919-1921 a vše vyvrcholilo v roce 1922, kdy byla dáilem schválena anglo-irská smlouva a byl vyhlášen Irský svobodný stát. Práce sleduje, jak se irští Američané stavěli k řešení irské otázky, do jaké míry se zapojili a jaký byl jejich názor na vyhlášení Irského svobodného státu. I když byli od své domoviny daleko, o dění v Irsku se nadále zajímali a věřili, že mohou Irům pomoci, jednalo se převážně o pomoc finanční, ale i diplomatickou.
