Johnson a Vietnam. Vliv vietnamské války na rozhodnutí prezidenta Lyndona B. Johnsona nekandidovat v prezidentských volbách v roce 1968

Abstract

Předkládaná bakalářská práce "Johnson a Vietnam. Vliv vietnamské války na rozhodnutí prezidenta Lyndona B. Johnsona nekandidovat v prezidentských volbách v roce 1968" se zaobírá poměrem prezidenta USA Lyndona Bainese Johnsona k vietnamské válce a zkoumá, nakolik Johnsonovy kroky ve vietnamské otázce ovlivnily jeho rozhodnutí v březnu 1968, jímž se vzdal své kandidatury pro své druhé prezidentské funkční období. Za Johnsonovy éry válka ve Vietnamu po Tonkinském incidentu eskalovala. Prezident Johnson, zastánce dominové teorie, se ve Vietnamu snažil o naplnění dvou cílů, jednak zabránit komunistické hrozbě, jednak ustavit ve Vietnamu demokratickou vládu. Hlavní použitou výzkumnou metodou je analýza dostupných pramenů a literatury; na veškeré pramenné zdroje autor nahlíží z hlediska hledání odpovědi na svou výzkumnou otázku. Práce je rozčleněna do sedmi kapitol. V závěru práce autor odpovídá na hlavní výzkumnou otázku a dokládá, že vietnamská válka byla velice podstatným důvodem toto, proč Johnson odstoupil od své druhé kandidatury. Autor dále uvádí, že důvodem byl souhrn všech faktorů, které v práci uvedl, a také pocit bezmoci kombinovaný s pocitem osobního selhání.

The fucused bachelor thesis "Johnson and Vietnam. Impact of the Vietnam War on the decision of President Lyndon B. Johnson not to run in the presidential elections in 1968" deals with the attitude of U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson to the Vietnam War, and examines how Johnson's steps taken in the Vietnam issues affected his decision in March 1968 not to seek and not accept the nomination for another term as the US president. In Johnson's Vietnam War era, the war after Tonkin incident escalated. President Johnson as a fervent supporter of the 'Domino Theory' tried to fulfill in Vietnam two objectives; firstly to prevent the communist threat, secondly to establish a democratic government in Vietnam. The main research method used is the analysis of the sources and literature, the source of all the resources the author is seen solely in terms of their research questions. The work is divided into seven chapters. In conclusion, the author answers the main research question and shows that the Vietnam War was very important reason that why Johnson resigned from his second candidacy.
