Firstly, the pain is described theoretically, its pathophysiology, its types from acute to chronic. Main part of this section comprises of evaluation, treatment of the pain and the nurses' and doctors' influence. Following chapters dissertate about degenerative problems of cervical spine. The conclusion of the theoretical part of the dissertation work describes aftercare, rehabilitation and home care. Experimental part of this work refers about a research I have undertaken. 46 people with degenerative cervical spine disorder took a part in my investigation. The process took part in a standard department of 'Na Homolce' Hospital. V teoretické části je bolest definována obecně, popsána její patofyziologie, druhy bolesti od akutní po chronickou. Důležitou oblastí teoretické části je hodnocení, léčba bolesti a vliv sester a lékaře na tlumení bolesti. Následující kapitoly pojednávají o degenerativním onemocnění krční páteře. Závěr teoretické části patří pooperační péči, rehabilitaci a domácímu režimu. Empirická část referuje o výzkumu, kterého se zúčastnilo 46 respondentů s degenerativním onemocněním krční páteře. Výzkumné šetření probíhalo na standardním oddělení neurochirurgie v Nemocnici Na Homolce. Týkalo se srovnání intenzity a charakteru bolesti před operací krční páteře a dva měsíce po operaci, porovnání rozdílu intenzity bolesti v závislosti na pohlaví, ovlivňujících faktorů, míry úlevy, kterou pacientům operace přinesla a především spokojenosti pacientů s výsledkem operace.
