Pražští Židé ve 20. století: problém plurality identit

Abstract

Diplomová práce se zabývá národní, náboženskou a politickou identitou pražských Židů v období první republiky a v prvním poválečném desetiletí. První, historicko-teoretická část, vychází ze studia literatury. Je zde nastíněna historická zkušenost židovské komunity na českém území. V této části se práce soustředí na dějiny židovské komunity, stejně jako na historii vztahů mezi židovskou menšinou a většinovou společností, na vztah židovské komunity a státu, a konečně na identitu českých Židů a její proměny pod vlivem společenských okolností. Druhá, výzkumná část, je založena na analýze rozhovorů s židovskými pamětníky. Tato část se zabývá národní, náboženskou a politickou identitou těchto pamětníků a jejich rodin. V části věnované národní identitě je zjišťováno, zda se pražští Židé ve sledovaném období identifikovali s češstvím, židovstvím či němectvím, případně pokud měli více národních identit, jaký byl mezi nimi poměr. Část zaměřená na náboženskou identitu se pokouší odpovědět na otázku, jaká byla v židovských rodinách míra religiozity, a co pro Židy náboženství znamenalo. Pokud jde o politickou identitu, text odpovídá na otázku, jaká byla politická orientace pražských Židů, a jaký byl jejich vztah k československému státu a k českému národu.

This thesis deals with national, religious and political identity of Prague Jews in the era of the First Republic and in the first postwar decade. The first, theoretical part, is based on study of thematic literature. It describes historical experience of the jewish community in the Czech lands. It is focused not only on history of the jewish community itself, but also on the history of the relationship between jewish minority and majority society, and between jewish community and the government. It also tries to depict the identity of Czech Jews and its changing due to transformation of social conditions. The second, research part of the thesis is based on analysis of interviews with jewish eyewitnesses. It examines national, religious and political identities of those eyewitnesses and their families. In the part dealing with national identity it tries to find out whether it was Czech, Jewish or German national identity that was most important to Prague Jews during the followed period. In the part that dwells on religious identity we aspire to answer the question to what extent were Jews in Prague religious and what religion meant to them.
