Kondiční závislost druhotných ornamentů a výběr partnera u koroptve polní Perdix perdix)

Abstract

Práce se snaží objasnit vztah kondice, míry exprese ornamentu a výběr partnera u populace druhu koroptve polní (Perdix perdix). Sestává z části korelativní a manipulativní. V korelativní části práce byl sledován vliv kondičních parametrů na ornamentaci u divoké populace tohoto druhu a samičí preference pro ornament. Zde byla zjištěna souvislost mezi velikostí a barvou ornamentů. Velikost i barva karotenoidního proužku a velikost melaninové podkovy souvisí s imunitními funkcemi a kondicí organismu (komplementová aktivita, poměr immaturních erytrocytů, HL, odpověď na PHA). Dále byl zjištěn vliv karotenoidního ornamentu na rychlost párování samce. Na uměle odchovaných jedincích se byla nejdříve ověřena přítomnost karotenoidů v červeném kožním znaku za okem a poté bylo v pokusu manipulováno s hladinami přijímaných karotenoidů a stimulací imunity. Byla testována tzv. "Carotenoid maintenance" hypotéza, která předpokládá spíše negativní vliv karotenoidů na zdraví jedince a expresi ornamentu, která se nicméně nepotvrdila. Podávání karotenoidů vedlo pouze ke zlepšení červenosti a stimulace imunitního systému měla prokazatelný negativní vliv pouze na hmotnost jedince. Práce přispívá k objasnění role ornamentů v signalizaci kondice jedince.

This study focuses on relationships between individual condition, measures of ornament expression and mate choice in the Grey Partridge (Perdix perdix). It is based on the correlative data as well as results of manipulative experiments. I found positive correlation between the size of melanin- and carotenoid-based ornaments in partridges. The size and the redness of the carotenoid skin patch, and the size of the melanin-based feather ornamentation were associated with several measures of immunity and overall body condition (complement activity, ratio of immature erythrocytes, heterophil/leucocyte ratio, response to novel antigen). Furthermore, data from natural populations indicate that the expression of carotenoid-based ornamentation is associated with sexual attractiveness (measured as the ability to obtain a social mate) in partridges. Data from captive individuals indicate that carotenoid supplementation improves the redness of carotenoid-based ornament, while the stimulation of the immune system under increasing concentrations of supplemented carotenoids has no measurable effect on condition and physiological state.
