Cieľom práce je systematizovať doterajšie poznatky o tomto kulte a rozšíriť ich prostredníctvom analýzy doposiaľ nedostatočne prebádaných prameňov. Na úvod práca zasadzuje skúmanú tematiku do historického a naratívneho kontextu komunity a sleduje postavu proroka Eliáša od jej biblických koreňov cez rabínsku a kabalistickú tradíciu až po jej osobitú podobu v prostredí Bene Israel. Následne sa sústreďuje na rituálnu prax spojenú s Eliášom, predovšetkým na obrad malida a pútnický sviatok Elijáhú Hannabíčá urs, pričom skúma ich historický vývoj, liturgickú štruktúru a synkretické väzby na moslimské a hinduistické náboženské prostredie. Záverečná časť práce analyzuje literárne spracovanie Eliášovej postavy v anglofónnej tvorbe autorov Bene Israel s cieľom ukázať, ako literatúra sprostredkúva žitý vzťah komunity k prorokovi.
This bachelor's thesis examines the cult of the prophet Elijah within the Bene Israel community, one of the oldest Jewish communities on the Indian subcontinent. The thesis aims to systematize existing knowledge about this cult and to expand upon it through an analysis ofsources that have not yet been sufficientlyexplored. The thesis begins by situating the subject matter within the historical and narrative context of the community. It traces the figure of the prophet Elijah from his biblical roots through the rabbinic and Kabbalistic traditions to his distinctive form within the Bene Israel community. It then focuses on ritual practices associated with Elijah, particularly the Malida ceremony and the pilgrimage festival of Elijahu Hannabicha urs, examining their historical development, liturgical structure, and syncretic connections with Muslim and Hindu religious contexts. The final section of the thesis analyzes the literary portrayal of Elijah in the Anglophone works of Bene Israel authors to demonstrate how literature mediates the community's lived relationship with the prophet.
