This bachelor's thesis focuses on the issue of death repression in the practice of nurses working in Czech hospice care. The aim of the thesis is to understand how repression of death manifests itself in the everyday experiences of hospice nurses. The theoretical section presents sociological perspectives on how Western society perceives death and dying. Particular attention is given to the thesis of the tabooization of death and its critical reinterpretations. This section concludes with a definition of the concept of repression of death, which is subsequently applied in the analytical part of the thesis. The remainder of the theoretical section focuses on situating the issue of death denial within the healthcare environment. The empirical part is based on a reflexive thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted with nurses working in Czech hospice facilities. The analysis identified five main thematic areas in which repression of death manifests itself: the dominant medical conception of death, the emotional labour of nurses, the asynchrony of perceptions of dying, the loss of self-sufficiency of dying patients, and the perception of hospice nurses. The findings indicate that the repression of death is reproduced through the dominant medical understanding of death and in interactions...
