This thesis focuses on the reading habits of the Czech deaf adult population. In the context of Czech Republic, the previous related research has focused on the reading literacy of deaf people and examined their skills to read with understanding. However, there is a lack of research focusing on the relationship that deaf people have with reading. The main aim of this thesis is to look closer at this matter on both quantitative and qualitative level. The first half of the work introduces the reader to the topic of reading habits both in general and in the context of the deaf community. This is followed by a summary of already existing studies related to the deaf and reading, and a short description of the genre of reading biographies. In the second half of the work, the research and its results are described. The research consists of a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Based on the interviews, four reading biographies of deaf research participants were created.
