Tandem mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography (LC-MS/MS) is one of the most leading techniques for identifying and discovering molecules in biological and environmental samples. A typical LC-MS/MS experiment produces thousands of mass spectra, yet it remains a challenge to prioritize which of these spectra correspond to structurally novel molecules. This thesis introduces a standardized benchmark that can help to develop, evaluate, and analyze machine-learning novelty detection tools for small molecules. Two simple methods are implemented within the benchmark to showcase its use.
