This thesis examines the limits of experience and the experience of limits in the thought of two authors, Karl Jaspers and Immanuel Kant. The limits of experience are explored with reference to Kant's conception of experience as developed in the Critique of Pure Reason. In contrast to this conception, Jaspers's notion of worldview is presented as a broader understanding of experience. Since Kant's account not only of experience but especially of ideas is of fundamental importance for Jaspers, the thesis engages in a continuous comparison of the two thinkers. This comparison, however, is not the primary aim of the study; rather, it serves as a means of clarifying the distinctive features of each author's position. The limit of experience ultimately proves to be decisive for Jaspers's conception of worldview, since from this limit the ideas permeating and orienting worldview emerge. The second part of the thesis, entitled The Experience of Limits, examines antinomies as irreconcilable contradictions and subsequently shows how they constitute structure of existence of the human being in Jaspers's thought. On the basis of an analysis of limit situations, the thesis then describes the possibility of consciously relating oneself to this condition and of directing one's existence toward the infinite,...
