Despite extensive scholarship on deportation as a legal and political category, less attention has been paid to how migrants narrate and experience deportation. This study addresses these gaps by asking: 1. How do deportees narrate their deportation experience and what do their accounts reveal about the rupture of everyday life and the impossibility to return? 2. How do coercion and criminalization narratives shape the experience of migrants within the USA? And in what ways do these practices operate as structural elements of the deportation process? 3. In what ways do deportees' testimonies challenge the institutional definitions of deportation and voluntary departure, and how do their life trajectories expose the structural contradictions of forced removal as a state practice? Drawing on two months'...
