This thesis examines the development of the Janov housing estate in Litvínov, with particular attention to its transformation from a space associated with modernist socialist housing into a locality perceived as socially excluded. The aim of the thesis is to reconstruct the history of the housing estate through archival sources and narrative interviews, while also analysing the memory narratives connected to the area's transformations. The study proceeds from the premise that the historical development of Janov and its contemporary mnemonic framing cannot be separated, as they are mutually constitutive and together shape the image of the place. The research focuses on the period from the early 1980s, when the estate had already been fully inhabited and its everyday social dynamics were beginning to emerge, to the present. Particular attention is paid to the social, spatial, and institutional processes that contributed to the transformation of the locality, especially the privatization of the housing stock, changes in the social composition of the population, the gradual deterioration of public space, and the rise of practices commonly referred to as the "poverty business." An important part of the analysis is also the way in which the estate's transformation is interpreted through ethnicizing and...
