Genderová diskriminace na Instagramu

Abstract

This master's thesis, Gender Discrimination on Instagram, examines how hate speech becomes gender-based discrimination. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the forms of gender discrimination and to interpret patterns of behavior and defense strategies employed by authors of hate speech within broader social structures. The thesis is grounded in a theoretical framework that conceptualizes gender as a social construct and draws on theories such as performativity, levels of gender, stigma, labeling theory, and symbolic violence. The empirical part is based on methodological triangulation, combining a discursive analysis of hateful comments under selected Instagram posts with in-depth semi-structured interviews with individuals who produce such content. Collected data was analyzed using open coding, and interpretations were informed by the theory of neutralization techniques. The findings suggest that gender discrimination on Instagram functions as a mechanism of social control maintained by defenders of traditional gender roles. The data illustrates the existence of gender asymmetry within the sample. Diplomová práce Genderová diskriminace na Instagramu analyzuje způsob, jakým se nenávistné projevy neboli hate speech stává diskriminační na základě genderu. Cílem práce je přiblížit, jak se diskriminace projevuje a interpretovat vzorce chování a obranné strategie samotných autorek a autorů hate speech v kontextu širších společenských struktur. Práce vychází z teoretického základu, který vnímá gender jako sociální konstrukt, zkoumá a aplikuje teorii performativity, roviny genderu, stigma, etiketizační teorii a koncept symbolického násilí. Empirická část je založena na metodologické triangulaci, která kombinuje diskurzivní analýzu nenávistných komentářů pod vybranými příspěvky na Instagramu a hloubkové polostrukturované rozhovory s autorkami a autory hate speech. Analýza vytvořených dat proběhla formou otevřeného kódování a interpretace pomocí teorie neutralizačních technik. Genderová diskriminace na Instagramu funguje jako mechanismus sociální kontroly, kterou vykonávají ochránci tradičních genderových rolí. Data ilustrují existenci genderové asymetrie ve zkoumaném vzorku. Mužští aktéři ve zkoumaném vzorku na Instagramu čelí kritice za selhání v projevech citlivosti nebo v tradiční roli finančního podporovatele rodiny.
