Genderované zkušenosti studentek ČVUT v Praze

Abstract

This bachelor's thesis explores the gender-conditioned experiences of female students at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU). The aim of the work was to identify and understand how students perceive and live through these experiences. A further step in the study was to determine how these experiences can be interpreted through the lens of liberal feminist theory. The research was conducted using a qualitative method, and data were generated through semi-structured interviews with seven female bachelor's students from CTU faculties with a predominantly male student body. The results showed that the everyday reality of studying is still shaped by persistent gender stereotypes and infrastructural disadvantages. The thesis identifies the existence of gender stereotypes, the "the masculine institutional setting and the "chilly climate" phenomenon, which manifest as the questioning of students' technical competencies, a paternalistic approach, or the sexualization of their performance. The analysis further revealed the paradox of "extreme visibility," where students, as representatives of a minority, are under constant pressure to perform. These findings are crucial for understanding the barriers that can make it more difficult for women to study in STEM fields.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zkoumáním genderově podmíněných zkušeností studentek Českého vysokého učení technického v Praze (ČVUT). Cílem práce bylo identifikovat a porozumět tomu, jak studentky tyto zkušenosti vnímají a prožívají. Dalším krokem práce bylo zjistit, jak je možné tyto zkušenosti interpretovat skrze optiku teorie liberálního feminismu. Výzkum byl realizován kvalitativní metodou a tvorba dat probíhala skrze polostrukturované rozhovory se sedmi bakalářskými studentkami fakult ČVUT s převahou mužského studenstva. Výsledky ukázaly, že každodenní realita studia je stále formována přetrvávajícími genderovými stereotypy a infrastrukturním znevýhodněním. Práce identifikuje existenci genderových stereotypů, maskulinně orientovaného nastavení instituce a fenoménu "chladného klimatu", které se projevují zpochybňováním technických kompetencí studentek, paternalistickým přístupem či sexualizací jejich výkonu. Analýza dále odhalila paradox "extrémní viditelnosti", kdy jsou studentky jako zástupkyně minority pod neustálým tlakem na výkon. Tato zjištění jsou klíčová pro pochopení bariér, které mohou ženám ztěžovat studium ve STEM oborech.
