This thesis analyses romantic relationships in role-playing video games and their impact on female players, using Baldur's Gate 3 as a case study. The qualitative research is based on eight semi-structured interviews with female players who completed the game and pursued a romantic storyline with one of its main companions and the data were processed using reflexive thematic analysis. The aim of the thesis was to explore how female players perceive the relationship between their avatar and the romantic storyline, through which sensory channels they form bonds with companion characters, and what position they take in interpreting game design. Based on the analysis, the author formulates three concepts that contribute to game studies in the Czech context. These are the concept of the player critic who reflects on game design, the construction of the ideal partner as a negative image of design decisions, and the sensory modality of the parasocial bond, in which voice acting plays a key role. The findings show that the romantic experience of female players in mainstream RPGs is shaped not only by narrative and mechanics but, above all, by the active interpretive work of the player, who perceives the romantic storyline simultaneously as an emotional experience and as a design artefact open to critical...
