This master's thesis focuses on the role of parents in developing the media literacy of their children aged 10 to 15 in the context of social media use. It is based on the assumption that social media represents a significant space for children's socialization, self-expression, and identity formation, while also presenting a range of risks that parents must respond to. The aim of the thesis is to understand how parents perceive their children's use of social media, what parental mediation strategies they apply, and how they support the development of media literacy within the family environment. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the concept of media literacy, the specifics of adolescence as a developmental stage, the role of social media in children's lives, and different approaches to parental mediation. The empirical part is based on qualitative research conducted through semi-structured interviews with fifteen parents. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that parents perceive social media as both a space of opportunities and risks, and most often choose a strategy of active mediation based on communication, explanation, and the joint establishment of rules.
