Časopis Volné směry v 90. letech 19. století

Abstract

This master's thesis focuses on the magazine Volné směry in the 1890s, specifically on its first three volumes published between 1896 and 1899. It briefly introduces the literary-historical and cultural context of the Czech fin de siècle, the transformation of Czech modernism at the turn of the century, the activities of the Mánes Association of Fine Artists, as well as the issue of art magazines of the period. The analytical part of the thesis examines the development of the magazine during its first three volumes in terms of its editorial circle, the representation of individual contributors, the evolution of its sections, and the graphic design of the periodical. It also focuses on the analysis of selected literary texts, especially poems, and texts of cultural journalism. The research is based on the method of qualitative content analysis, which makes it possible to capture the thematic, motivational, and generic transformations of the individual volumes and to place them within a broader literary-historical context. The thesis shows that Volné směry provided space both for already established authors and for representatives of the emerging modern generation. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá časopisem Volné směry v 90. letech 19. století, konkrétně jeho prvními třemi ročníky vydávanými v letech 1896-1899. Stručně představuje literárněhistorický a kulturní kontext českého fin de siècle, proměny české moderny na přelomu století, činnost Spolku výtvarných umělců Mánes i problematiku uměleckých časopisů daného období. Analytická část práce sleduje proměnu časopisu v prvních třech ročnících z hlediska redakčního okruhu, zastoupení jednotlivých autorů, vývoje rubrik a grafické podoby periodika. Zaměřuje se také na analýzu vybraných literárních textů, zejména básní, a textů kulturní publicistiky. Výzkum je založen na metodě kvalitativní obsahové analýzy, která umožňuje postihnout tematické, motivické i žánrové proměny jednotlivých ročníků a zasadit je do širšího literárněhistorického kontextu. Práce ukazuje, že Volné směry poskytovaly prostor jak etablovaným autorům, tak představitelům nastupující moderní generace. Analýza zároveň potvrzuje postupné užší profilování časopisu - od literárně-výtvarného zaměření k ryze výtvarnému.
