This master's thesis examines the motherhood of women with physical disabilities as an ambivalent experience in which normative expectations, control, and questioning intersect with agency and possibilities for empowerment. The thesis draws on disability studies and feminist theories of motherhood, which make it possible to understand both disability and motherhood as socially constructed categories shaped by power relations, institutions, and cultural norms. The aim of the thesis is to capture how five women with disabilities experience and interpret their motherhood, and how gendered and ableist ideas about the body, normative motherhood, and maternal competence are reflected in these experiences. Methodologically, the thesis is grounded in the constructivist paradigm and feminist methodology. The research is based on five semi-structured interviews with mothers with physical disabilities, analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Keywords motherhood; gender; disability; disability studies; feminist methodology; ableism; normativity
