This bachelor thesis examines the impact of value congruence in influencer marketing on the formation of parasocial relationships and the consumer behavior of Generation Z and Generation Y. The main objective of the thesis is to determine the extent to which value congruence functions as a necessary "entry filter" for establishing trust and purchasing products promoted by an influencer. Qualitative research, combining content analysis on the Instagram platform and semi-structured interviews, confirms that while value congruence is a key prerequisite for the formation and stability of a parasocial relationship, both generations strictly require the presence of functional appeals to actually make a purchase. Furthermore, the thesis identifies the existence of a so-called "value veto," where ethical or political misalignment leads to a boycott of the creator, although this can be weakened by pragmatic motivations for a discounted purchase. The results of the thesis thus demonstrate that for a successful purchase conversion, value alignment along the influencer-brand-consumer axis must be supported by the functional utility of the promoted product.
