The thesis addresses the methodologically and computationally problematic estimation of financial agent-based models obstructing their wider practical adoption. It proposes a family of pre-trained deep neural estimators built in the spirit of amortized inference. The estimators map time series directly to parameter estimates, replacing the expensive optimization loop of standard simulation-based methods by a one-off training phase. In sum, eight amortized neural estimators are considered and evaluated against the base- line simulated method of moments in a controlled Monte Carlo exercise covering three benchmark models. Three primary findings are made. First, the neural estimators match or outperform the benchmark on the normalized root mean squared error for every pa- rameter set, with improvements reaching 73% on the Brock & Hommes (1998) model, establishing the viability of the proposed framework. Second, it demonstrates the use of neural time series representations, removing the dependence on a pre-selected moment set that the simulated method of moments relies on. Third, the amortized structure of the estimators reduces the per-estimation inference time by several orders of magnitude. This enables advanced analyses such as rolling-window estimation, which the thesis performs on the Franke & Westerhoff...
