Gillis Mostaert. Obrazy vlámského malíře v českých sbírkách v kontextu Osmdesátileté války

Abstract

This diploma thesis focuses on the Flemish painter Gillis Mostaert (1528-1598), with particular attention paid to three of his paintings preserved in the Czech collections of the National Gallery in Prague and the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum. The main focus is also on the painter's other depictions of wartime violence and scenes of fire. The painting Market in a Small Town (1579) is on display in the permanent exhibition at the Šternberg Palace, while Kermes of St. George and Landscape with an Attack by Brigands are held in the gallery's depository. Rest of the Holy Family on the flight into Egypt is on display at the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum. These works share a genre and landscape character, often depicting scenes of violence, skirmishes, and military clashes-motifs that, in the context of the Eighty Years' War (1568- 1648) between the Northern and Spanish Netherlands, naturally permeated the thematic framework of Netherlandish art. The aim of the thesis is to place Mostaert's work within the broader historical context of the Eighty Years' War and to examine how themes of war and conflict were reflected in his pictorial repertoire. Anotace Diplomová práce se věnuje osobnosti vlámského malíře Gillise Mostaerta (1528-1598) se zvláštním zaměřením na jeho obrazy dochované se v českých sbírkách Národní galerie v Praze a Arcidiecézního muzea Olomouc. Hlavním předmětem zkoumání jsou i další malířovy obrazy zobrazující válečné násilí či požáry. Ve stálé expozici Národní galerie v Praze, ve Šternberském paláci je vystaven obraz Trh v městečku (1579), zatímco Kermes sv. Jiří a Krajina s loupežným přepadením jsou uloženy v galerijním depozitáři. Přepadení sv. Rodiny při odpočinku na útěku do Egypta se nachází ve stálé expozici Arcidiecézního muzea Olomouc. Jmenovaná díla spojuje žánrový a krajinný charakter, přičemž často zachycují výjevy násilí, potyček a vojenských střetů, bojových šarvátek či potyček, které díky Osmdesátileté válce (1568-1648) severního a španělského Nizozemí přirozeně pronikaly do námětů nizozemského umění. Cílem práce je zasadit Mostaertovo dílo do širšího dobového rámce Osmdesátileté války a zaměřit se na způsoby, jakými se válečná tematika promítla do jeho obrazového repertoáru.
