Vizuální reprezentace přírodních katastrof v českém online zpravodajství

Abstract

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the visual representation of natural disasters in Czech online news media. The thesis presents key media concepts that contribute to the formation of this image, such as gatekeeping, agenda-setting and framing. The thesis also examines the role of the media during natural disasters and the ethical aspects of their media coverage. The aim of the research is to determine how two natural disasters - the tornado in South Moravia in 2021 and the floods in the Czech Republic in 2024 - were visually represented. At the same time, the research aims to compare the representation of these two events and to compare the approaches of the selected media outlets. The research is based on a quantitative content analysis of 420 lead images and accompanying captions published on the websites iROZHLAS.cz, Seznam Zprávy, and Blesk.cz. The results show that the visual representation of natural disasters is predominantly based on the depiction of material destruction. The analysis further shows that media representations of natural disasters differ depending on their nature: while floods are more often depicted in an institutional context, the tornado is more frequently framed through a human dimension. Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vizuální reprezentaci přírodních katastrof v českém online zpravodajství. V práci budou představeny klíčové mediální koncepty, které se na utváření tohoto obrazu podílejí, jako je například gatekeeping, nastolování agendy nebo rámcování. Práce se také zabývá rolí médií během přírodních katastrof a etickými aspekty při jejich mediálním pokrytí. Cílem výzkumu je zjistit, jakým způsobem byly dvě přírodní katastrofy - tornádo na jižní Moravě v roce 2021 a povodně v České republice v roce 2024 - vizuálně reprezentovány. Zároveň si výzkum klade za cíl porovnat zobrazení těchto dvou událostí a komparovat přístupy vybraných médií. Výzkum je založen na kvantitativní obsahové analýze 420 titulních snímků a doprovodných titulků publikovaných na serverech iROZHLAS.cz, Seznam Zprávy a Blesk.cz. Výsledky ukazují, že vizuální reprezentace přírodních katastrof je dominantně založena na zobrazení materiální destrukce. Analýza dále ukázala, že mediální reprezentace přírodních katastrof se liší v závislosti na jejich charakteru: zatímco povodně jsou zobrazovány více v institucionálním kontextu, tornádo je častěji rámcováno skrze lidský rozměr.
