Reprezentácia gendru a mocenských vzťahov v seriáli Biely Lotos

Abstract

This Bachelor's thesis examines gender stereotypes and power relations in popular culture, specifically in the TV series The White Lotus. Its aim is to analyse, the extent to which these phenomena are encoded in the series, and how they are perceived by expert viewers - film critics. The topics of gender stereotypes and power relations have been discussed in both Czech and international media, as well as in academic publications, and therefore the author considers this piece as complex product, suitable for analysis. The theoretical part defines and contextualises concepts such as gender stereotypes and the biological and social dimensions of gender. It also introduces a framework of semiotic analysis and presents various perspectives on the concept of power. The analytical part applies this semiotic framework to the series trough the Fiske's television codes. The results of the analysis indicate a complex and multi-layered representation of gender stereotypes and confirm the dynamic nature of power structures. The triangulation of findings is supported by interviews with film critics, which highlight the articulation of themes related to gender and power, such as patriarchy and the power of money. Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá gendrovými stereotypmi a mocenskými vzťahmi v populárnej kultúre, konkrétne v seriáli Biely Lotos. Jej cieľom je analyzovať, na koľko sú tieto javy v seriáli zakódované, a ako sú vnímané odbornými divákmi - filmovým kritikmi. Témami gendrových stereotypov a mocenských rol sa zaoberali v kontexte Bieleho Lotosu zahraničné i české média či akademické publikácie a preto autorka považuje toto dielo za komplexný celok hodný analýzy. Teoretická časť širšie uvádza pojmy ako gendrové stereotypy či biologickú a sociálnu povahu gendru. Taktiež predstavuje rámec semiotickej analýzy a viaceré náhľady na koncept moci. Analýza aplikuje semiotický rámec na samotný seriál prostredníctvom Fiskeho televíznych kódov. Z výsledkov analýzy plynie komplexné a viacvrstvové zobrazovanie gendrových stereotypov a zároveň sa potvrdzuje premenlivá povaha mocenských štruktúr. Trianguláciu zistení podporujú výsledky rozhovorov s filmovými kritičkami a kritikmi, ktorí poukazujú na nastoľovanie tém spájaných s pojmami gendru či moci, ako patriarchát či moc peňazí. Pomocou prepojenia týchto zistení, autorka ukazuje, že seriál Biely Lotos nie je len produktom peak TV, no aj nástrojom prinášania gendrových a mocenských tém.
