Grafické listy Sedmera svobodných umění Cornelise Corta

Abstract

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the analysis of the graphic sheets of the cycle of the Seven Liberal Arts by the Dutch engraver Cornelius Cort, which was based on the now defunct paintings of the Flemish painter Frans Floris, and traces their iconographic and iconological significance. The prints, which are now part of the collections of the National Gallery in Prague, present allegorical representations of the individual liberal arts through personifications and accompanying attributes. The thesis first deals with the historical development of the concept of the seven liberal arts, its origin in antiquity and its transformation during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, including the first artistic representations of this motif and its development in visual culture. It also focuses on a detailed analysis of the graphic leaves themselves, their form and content, the iconographic attributes of each allegorical figure, and their significance in the thought of the time. The aim of the thesis is the treatment of the phenomenon of the seven liberal arts, the iconographic description of the individual graphic sheets and their formal and iconological interpretation.

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu grafických listů cyklu Sedmera svobodných umění nizozemského rytce Cornelise Corta, který vznikl podle dnes již nedochovaných maleb vlámského malíře Franse Florise, a sleduje jejich ikonografický a ikonologický význam. Grafické listy, které jsou dnes součástí sbírek Národní galerie v Praze, představují alegorické ztvárnění jednotlivých svobodných umění prostřednictvím personifikací a doprovodných atributů. Práce se nejprve zabývá historickým vývojem konceptu sedmera svobodných umění, jeho vznikem v antice a transformací v průběhu středověku a renesance, včetně prvních výtvarných zobrazení tohoto motivu a jeho vývoje ve vizuální kultuře. Dále se soustředí na podrobnou analýzu samotných grafických listů, jejich formální a obsahové stránky, ikonografických atributů jednotlivých alegorických postav a jejich významu v dobovém myšlenkovém kontextu. Cílem práce je zpracování fenoménu sedmera svobodných umění, ikonografický popis jednotlivých grafických listů a jejich formální i ikonologická interpretace.
